The Best Places to Visit in Nepal in July

July is part of the rainy season in Nepal. If you don't mind frequent rain showers (which mostly happen in the afternoons), it is a good time to explore Nepal's numerous national parks as the rains make the plants green and lush. Trekking at low altitudes is still possible in this month, but some of the higher altitude treks may be closed due to flooding and landslides. Here are some of the recommended places to visit if you are going to Nepal in July:

1. Thamel District, Kathmandu

Thamel District

If you visit Kathmandu for the first time, then Thamel District should be on your list. You will be amazed by its bustling nightlife, good restaurants, colorful shops, and chaotic night markets. If you want to taste traditional Nepalese food and experience real local life in Nepal, Thamel is the right place for you. There are numerous temples, ancient shrines, and cultural monuments, where you can easily spend more than half a day. You could buy some pashminas, thangkas, and trekking gear for friends and families, as there are many souvenir and outdoor equipment shops there.

2. The National Museum of Nepal, Kathmandu

If you want somewhere indoors for those rainy days in July in Kathmandu, then the National Museum would be a good place to go, where you could learn more about the history and culture of Nepal. Located in the heart of Kathmandu, the museum has a large collection of artifacts, artwork, and historical objects that represent the rich cultural heritage of Nepal. In half a day, you can browse through its ten galleries that display exhibits on different aspects of Nepali culture, including art, history, archaeology, and ethnography.

3. Davi's Waterfalls, Pokhara

 Davi's Waterfalls

A must-visit destination in Nepal, Pokhara is rich in beautiful natural sights. If you would like to escape the summer heat in July, Davi's Waterfalls is a good place. It got its name from a woman called Davi from Switzerland who drowned there. Her father requested that the falls be named after his daughter, and the name caught on. The waterfall is situated in a rocky and lush landscape, making it a popular spot for visitors to stop to take photos and enjoy the natural beauty. After several pools and cascades, the waterfall finally falls into a 150-meter (500-feet) deep underground cavern. During the peak monsoon month of July, the waterfall is at its most impressive. It is a unique and memorable experience to walk behind the waterfall and enjoy the cool mist during the hot summer days.

4. Phewa Tal (Phewa Lake), Pokhara

Phewa Tal (Phewa Lake)

July is a good time to visit Pokhara's Phewa Lake, as the monsoon rain wash the plants green and clean. Known for its scenic beauty and peaceful atmosphere, Phewa Lake is one of the most popular attractions in Pokhara. There you can rent paddle boats, rowing boats, or motorboats to explore the lake and its surroundings. You could also have an amazing view of the Machapuchare range and its surrounding peaks in the distance. Visit World Peace Pagoda, and get a spectacular panoramic view of the whole lake from the top of it.

5. Langtang National Park, Kathmandu Valley

Maybe you have heard of Chitwan National Park, but you are still unlikely to be familiar with Langtang National Park, which is close to the Kathmandu Valley. If you don't want to travel quite as far to get to Chitwan and you are interested in nature, trekking, and mountain adventures, Langtang could be a good nature-park option. The park offers visitors the opportunity to trek through a beautiful mountainous landscape, with stunning views of the Himalayas, and to explore lush highland forests, rhododendron forests, and picturesque villages. Search out its numerous species, such as musk deer, red panda, Himalayan black bear, snow leopard, wild dog, and serow (goat-antelope), and more than 250 species of birds.

Crowding and Costs in July

Due to its poor weather conditions (hot, humid, and very rainy, with muddy trails), July is not a very good time to do outdoor activities in Nepal. Only small numbers of travelers visit Nepal in this month: you don't need to worry about crowds in July.

What to Bring/Wear in July

July is quite warm in Nepal in low altitude areas, but stays cool at higher altitudes. You are recommended to pack some summer clothes — shirts, light trousers, T-shirts, sandals, sunglasses... — with some light trousers and a light coat or jacket to change into according to the temperature.

As July is in the rainy season, there will be about 15–20+ days of rain in most parts of the country. Umbrellas, waterproof shoes, and raincoats, are often needed in July. When venturing into wild places (particularly), it is recommended that you pack insect repellent or wear long-sleeved shirts and ankle-length and long-length legwear to protect yourself from insect bites as there will be more mosquitoes and other insects in summer.
