Kathmandu (also Patan/Lalitpur): The weather in Kathmandu is characterized by moderate to high amounts of rainfall during the first half of September, and a resultant 82% humidity. The rains begin to subside towards the end of the month, with sunnier days replacing them and bringing fresh optimism at the start of another trekking season at the start of October. The average temperatures in September in the capital of Kathmandu range from highs of 26°C (79°F) to lows of 19°C (66°F).

Pokhara: Pokhara remains the rainiest of all the major cities in Nepal during September. However, as is the case with most of the country, the rains begin to relent towards the end of September, making this, and the beginning of October, good times to start hitting the trails. The average maximum temperatures in Pokhara for September are 26°C (79°F) whereas the average minimum is around 19°C (66°F).

Bharatpur (Chitwan): Although Bharatpur receives a relatively modest 300 mm (12 inches) of rainfall for the entirety of September, this grand total for the month is spread out over a whopping 19 days, meaning it's quite gloomy and humid in the city for most of the month. The average temperature range for September in Bharatpur is 23°C (73°F) – 26°C (79°F).

The Best Places to Visit in Nepal in September

1.Kathmandu

For most people, Kathmandu is the starting point for any trip in Nepal. Whether you're in the city before heading elsewhere on a trek, or just exploring the capital and admiring everything it has to offer, there's plenty for everyone here. The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek (3210 meters/10,529 feet) is not terribly difficult whilst also being suitable for all age groups and fitness levels. The 5-day trek takes you through quaint Gandaki villages and rhododendron forests, before leaving you stunned with the views of Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchhare, and Annapurna that serve as your reward for making it to the viewpoint.

September Crowds and Costs

As the days in September tick on, more and more travelers can be seen on the streets of Nepal's major cities, with the busiest period being the end of the month. While it's certainly not as busy as it's going to be in October and November, it's not quiet and lacking in crowds quite like it is during July and August either.
