April is one of the best months to travel throughout Vietnam. The weather is mostly dry and warm across the country, making it perfect for beach vacations, cultural sightseeing, and outdoor adventures. The north enjoys pleasant spring temperatures, the central coast has sunny beach days, and the south remains hot but manageable with occasional showers.
While late April can get crowded due to public holidays, visiting earlier in the month offers a great balance of good weather and fewer tourists.
Vietnam's Regional Weather in April
Northern Vietnam (Hanoi, Halong Bay, Sapa)

The weather in northern Vietnam is mostly dry and pleasantly warm, with daily temperatures averaging around 28°C (82°F). Mountainous areas like Sapa are at least 8–9°C cooler than Hanoi, making it a refreshing escape. Drizzles and cloudy days are possible (around 6 rainy days in April), but they won’t disrupt your plans. Halong Bay might have some morning mist, creating a dreamy atmosphere, but clear skies are more common.
Central Vietnam (Da Nang, Hoi An, Hue, Nha Trang)

This is one of the best times to visit Central Vietnam—plenty of sunshine, very little rain, and comfortable temperatures averaging around 30°C (86°F) during the day and 22°C (72°F) at night. The beaches are perfect for relaxing, and sightseeing is much more pleasant before the summer heat kicks in. Just watch out for the high UV index and pack sunscreen.
Southern Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, Mekong Delta, Phu Quoc Island)

April is one of the hottest and driest months in southern Vietnam, with daily highs reaching 33°C (91°F) or more. Short afternoon showers start to appear in late April, bringing brief relief from the heat.
To beat the heat, plan indoor activities during midday, relax by the pool or beach, and explore the Mekong Delta’s floating markets early in the morning. Phu Quoc’s beaches remain inviting despite the heat.
The Best Places to Visit in Vietnam in April
Best Beach Getaway: Phu Quoc
While Da Nang and Nha Trang boast sunny skies and warm waters, Phu Quoc stands out with its calmer conditions for a peaceful island escape.
Families will love Vinpearl Safari, while couples can enjoy a romantic beachfront dinner or a private speedboat tour to secluded islands.

Best Cultural Experience: Hoi An
For history and culture, Hoi An is the top pick in April. The ideal weather makes it easy to explore lantern-lit streets or take scenic bike rides through the countryside. Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are great alternatives, but be prepared for Hanoi’s occasional drizzles and Ho Chi Minh’s intense midday heat.

Best Outdoor Adventures: Halong Bay, Sapa, Phong Nha, Hai Van Pass
Halong Bay’s calm waters are ideal for leisure cruising, kayaking, and cave exploration. Sapa is ideal for trekking and seeing ethical people working the mirror-like rice terraces.
Phong Nha, with its dry season in full swing, is the best place for caving adventures. Meanwhile, the Hai Van Pass provides the ultimate scenic motorbike ride, with clear skies and coastal breezes enhancing the journey.

What to Wear
Generally, it is hot in Vietnam in April. So, anything that can make you cool is recommended packing.
Shorts, sun hats, and sandals are always needed for an April trip. Umbrellas, sunglasses, swimsuits, and light summer clothes are often used on the beach and in the resorts.
Don't forget to carry raincoats, as you may catch some sudden rain, especially in the southern region.
Thus, when visiting the northern mountain area, you will still be a little chilly in the evening, just remember to bring an extra layer.
Crowds and Cost
April is still a high season for foreign visitors who take spring vacations. The cost of hotel and transportation is normally higher than in the following months but costs less than during the peak season (December-March).
If you come at the end of April, you may expect crowds, as that is the public holiday, usually from 29 April to 2nd May. It is recommended to book your rooms in advance.
