June in Vietnam is a mix of sunshine and rain. The north and south are hot and humid with frequent showers, while Central Vietnam stays mostly dry—making it the best region for beaches and outdoor fun.
This is also the start of the summer holiday season, so expect crowds at popular beaches and family-friendly attractions. With a smart plan, June can still be a fantastic time to visit.
So, where should you go? What’s better to avoid? And if you’re traveling with teens or young adults, what are some fun things to do? Let’s take a look at each region.
Northern Vietnam: Hot & Humid with Occasional Storms
- Hanoi, Halong Bay, Ninh Binh, Sapa
June is one of the hottest months in Northern Vietnam, with daily highs averaging 35°C (95°F) and humidity above 80%. Rainfall averages 190mm over 18 days, mostly in short, heavy afternoon showers and evening thunderstorms.
Despite the rain, it brings some stunning landscapes. Ninh Binh’s rice fields turn golden, making boat rides through Trang An or Tam Coc exceptionally scenic. The blooming lotus flowers add more photogenic charm as well.
Halong Bay remains a good choice in June. Overcast skies can actually make outdoor activities like kayaking and biking more comfortable. Even on a rainy day, its rich indoor activities won’t let you be bored alongside the scenic Halong Bay views.

Special Activities for Families with Teens or Young Adults
Water Puppet Show in Hanoi—A fun cultural experience with live folk music. For a more interactive experience, we can arrange a private session where your kids get to try operating the puppets themselves.

What to Avoid
Sapa & Ha Giang: The increasing rainfall makes trekking trails muddy and dangerous, with Mt. Fansipan often hidden in the mist. For better trekking conditions, visit between late September and November, or opt for shorter, well-maintained trails.
Central Vietnam: Best Weather for Beach Lovers
- Da Nang, Hoi An, Nha Trang, Quy Nhon, Hue
June is one of the best months to visit Central Vietnam, with only 5-7 rainy days. Whether you love swimming, island hopping, or diving, Da Nang, Hoi An, and Nha Trang have top beach conditions.
Temperatures peak at 35°C (86-95°F), but the coastal breeze keeps it comfortable. For cooler weather, visit the Central Highlands—Dalat enjoys mild temperatures of 20-25°C (68-77°F).
For a refreshing escape, explore the world-famous Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park. Take a leisurely walk through the breathtaking Phong Nha and Paradise Caves, or for thrill-seekers, embark on an adventurous cave trek and swim through the underground rivers of Tu Lan Cave.

Special Activities for Families with Teens or Young Adults
Ba Na Hills & Sun World Park is a family favorite, with its famous Golden Bridge, scenic cable cars, and a mix of theme park rides and indoor playgrounds.
In Hoi An, a lantern-making workshop is a fun way to learn about local crafts, or you can join a fishing tour to experience how locals catch fish using traditional methods.
To surprise your kids, catch the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (June 8 - July 13), a spectacular event that lights up the skies.

What to Avoid:
June is the peak travel season in Vietnam, especially at popular beach destinations like Da Nang and Nha Trang. Hotels, domestic flights, and day tours can fill up quickly. We recommend booking at least 2-3 months in advance to secure the best accommodations.
Also, starting your sightseeing early (before 8 AM) helps you beat both the crowds and the midday heat.
Southern Vietnam: Hot with Heavy Afternoon Showers
- Ho Chi Minh City, Mekong Delta, Phu Quoc, Con Dao
By June, Southern Vietnam is deep into its rainy season (May to October), with frequent but short-lived afternoon downpours. For example, Ho Chi Minh City sees 180-250mm of rainfall spread over 18-22 days, while temperatures stay warm at 32°C (90°F).
Heavy showers can cause temporary street flooding in cities, especially in low-lying areas like District 1. However, drainage systems usually clear the water within an hour, so disruptions are minimal.
In the Mekong Delta, floating markets like Cai Rang operate as usual. Arriving early (around 7 AM) not only lets you avoid midday showers but also gives you an authentic look at their morning trade. The increasing water level makes sampan rides along the waterways smoother and more scenic with blooming water lilies.
To make the most of your trip, plan outdoor activities in the morning and leave the afternoons for museums, cafés, or shopping.

Special Activities for Families with Teens or Young Adults
The A O Show is a fantastic way to experience Vietnamese culture through acrobatics, music, and dance. It’s entertaining for all ages (above 5) and a great way to spend an evening in Ho Chi Minh City.
Zip through Ho Chi Minh City on a Vespa, weaving past buzzing markets, historic landmarks, and hidden alleys. Soak up the city’s energy, taste street food, and see Saigon through the eyes of a local!

What to Avoid:
Phu Quoc & Southern Islands: June marks the start of rough seas and unpredictable storms. Strong waves and reduced underwater visibility make snorkeling and diving less enjoyable. Ferry services to smaller islands can be disrupted. Central Vietnam is a better choice if you’re looking for pristine beaches and water activities.
What to Pack for Vietnam in June
Since June brings a mix of heat, humidity, and rain, packing smart is essential.
- Light, breathable clothing: Loose-fitting cotton or moisture-wicking fabrics help you stay cool in the heat.
- Waterproof essentials: A light rain jacket or compact umbrella is a must for sudden downpours, especially in Northern and Southern Vietnam.
- Comfortable walking shoes: Water-resistant sneakers or sandals are best for exploring, as streets can get slippery after rain.
- Sun protection: UV levels are extremely high in June, so pack sunscreen (SPF 50+), a wide-brimmed hat, and sunglasses.
- Insect repellent: Mosquitoes thrive in the rainy season, especially in rural and coastal areas. A DEET-based repellent will help keep bites away.
Less Crowding and Cost
Early June is in the off-season for most of Vietnam, when you can enjoy a crowd-free trip and discounted hotels and flights.
You are advised to prepare for crowded beaches from late June because Vietnamese families begin their summer vacations at that time. Likewise, the cost will increase. Hotels will be in high demand from then on, so book your hotel for late June early.
