Vietnam Weather in November | First-Timer Tips (2025 Updated)

Written by Cindy Updated Mar. 10, 2025

November marks the transition from the hot and rainy season to a mild and dry season in most parts of Vietnam. With average temperatures ranging around 73-80°F (23-26°C), it becomes one of the best months to visit Vietnam.

For cooler, drier weather, head to Northern Vietnam (Hanoi, Halong Bay, Sapa) or Southern Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Quoc). However, Central Vietnam (Hoi An, Da Nang, Hue) experiences its rainiest month, with frequent downpours and occasional storms that may disrupt outdoor activities.

For a quick overview, check the average temperatures and rainfall across Vietnam in November.

Vietnam Regional Weather in November

In November, the weather conditions can differ greatly across Vietnam's northern, central, and southern regions.

Hanoi and Northern Vietnam: Cool and Dry

November is one of the best months to visit Northern Vietnam. The weather is dry and sunny, with average highs of 27°C (80°F) and lows of 17°C (63°F).

In Hanoi, the pleasant climate makes sightseeing more enjoyable, whether you're cycling through the Old Quarter or strolling around Hoan Kiem Lake.

Halong Bay is at its finest, with clear skies and calm waters perfect for photography, swimming, and kayaking. Unlike the colder months ahead (December–February), the water remains cool yet comfortable for water activities.

In the northern highlands, destinations like Sapa begin to experience a noticeable drop in temperature, with late November bringing chilly conditions. For trekking, early November offers more comfortable weather. For a seasonal highlight, check out Fansipan's spectacular sea of clouds. Visit it between 10 AM and 2 PM for the clearest visibility, as fog is common in early morning and late afternoon.

  • What to pack: summer attire for daytime, layers for cooler mornings and evenings, and a warm jacket for mountain excursions.

Hoi An and Central Vietnam: Peak Rainy Season

November brings Central Vietnam's heaviest rains, with frequent downpours and occasional flooding in Hue, Da Nang, and Hoi An. While rainfall slightly cools temperatures, daytime highs remain in the low 30s°C (mid-80s°F). Despite the rain, you may still catch sunny breaks, so flexibility is key

Historical sites like Hue and Hoi An remain accessible, though temporary flooding in low-lying areas may cause brief disruptions.

However, outdoor activities face greater challenges. Ba Na Hills frequently experiences dense fog, reducing visibility, while Phong Nha-Ke Bang Cave tours are suspended in the rainy season. Da Nang's beaches become rough on rainy days, with strong waves making swimming unsafe. For a more reliable beach destination, head south to Phu Quoc.

  • What to pack: a waterproof jacket, umbrella, and non-slip footwear.

Ho Chi Minh City and Southern Vietnam: Dry Season Begins

November marks the transition to Southern Vietnam's dry season. Early in the month, brief tropical showers are still possible, but sunny days become more frequent as December approaches.

Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta stay warm and humid, with temperatures ranging from 23–31°C (73–88°F). Rising Mekong River levels make this an ideal time for boat tours through mangroves and floating markets.

In the far south, Phu Quoc enters its prime season, offering clear skies and calm waters for beachgoers.

  • What to pack: light summer clothing, sunscreen, and sunglasses.

Is November a Good Time to Visit Vietnam?

Yes, November is an excellent time to visit Vietnam, considering the drier and milder weather in the north and south that's ideal for outdoor activities, whether cruising on Halong Bay or exploring the Mekong Delta.

Nevertheless, it's worth noting that the central region encounters its peak rainy season during this time - keep an eye on the weather updates if you plan to go there.

November kicks off Vietnam's high travel season, especially among international tourists. So expect larger crowds and higher costs (about 20-30% more expensive) in popular destinations, but still encounter smaller crowds compared to the peak months of December and January.

My suggestion is that, if possible, choose early November for the best balance of weather, crowds, and cost.

Where to Go in Vietnam in November?

November is an excellent month to explore the historic city of Hanoi and embark on a spectacular cruise in Halong Bay. Trekking in Sapa is an adventurous and rewarding option too, thanks to the more comfortable climate.

November's dry weather is an excellent time to visit Ho Chi Minh City with its French colonial landmarks, bustling street markets, and vibrant nightlife, and take a cruise in the Mekong Delta to witness the unique floating markets.

November is the tail-end month of the rainy season in Phu Quoc, where you can enjoy your beach holiday.
