Bali Weather in August 2025: Best Places to Go & Travel Tips

This article covers weather in August in Bali including average temperatures and rainfall as well as travel tips on places to go and what to wear in August.

Bali Weather in August: Overview

  • Temperature range: 23–30°C (73–86°F)
  • Rainfall: 3 cm (1 inch)
  • Rainy days: 4
  • Sunshine hours/day: 10
  • Ocean temperature: 27°C (81°F)
  • Humidity: 60%

August is the driest month in Bali and one of the coolest months, and along with July, it is one of the two busiest months for tourism.

It is noticeably cooler than the wet southern-hemisphere summer — by about 4°C (7°F). The daily high temperature is only about 30 °C (86 °F), so if you do not enjoy hot, humid summer weather, then the lack of rain, comfortable humidity, sunny skies, and warm weather would make August the month with the best weather for you.

It is one of the best months for enjoying the outdoors and the beaches. In August, the beaches and sea are about clearest of both floating trash and sediment.

Because there are 10 hours of bright sun per day on average, it still feels hot if you're under the sun during the day. The temperatures are mild at night, even cool in the mountains. The average daily maximum is 30°C (86°F), and the average nightly minimum is a comfortable 23°C (73°F). The sea is comfortable for just about everyone. This is beach weather.

Bali can expect an average of 4 days with rain in August. If it rains, rainfall falls for a few hours in the later afternoon or evening, so you could plan your activities earlier in the day to miss the rain. August is one of the windier months, so you can be thankful for the refreshing evening breezes.

The Best Places to Visit in Bali in August

The Best Places to Visit in Bali in August The Best Places to Visit in Bali in August

With great weather and high tourism, you might want to try to find places to get away from the crowds. You could go to the hills and mountains, to the west and north side of the island where fewer tourists go, or to one of the three nearby islands southeast of Bali.

You can have adventurous outdoor activities in the clearest of seas, including surfing, diving, and snorkeling.

1. Canggu for Surfing, Sunbathing, and Family Vacations

With the weather so good in August, it is a great time to go to the beaches. Canggu has among the best surfing in Bali, and lifeguards are stationed all along the beach. This help make the beach suitable for children. However, because the waves are so big, families should keep watch over their little children. There is black sand with some boulders.

Experienced surfers like Canggu. Its best spot to surf is Echo Beach and August is the best time to come.

Transport: Canggu is close to Denpasar, and it is only about 5 km (3 miles) from Seminyak. It is about 20 minutes from the airport by vehicle.

2. Enjoy Western Bali - Get Away From the Crowds

When the rest of Bali gets crowded, you could get away from the crowds by going to the western half of the island. In addition to less tourism and more local culture, there are natural and outdoor activities.

For example, you could swim in the clean Gelar River that is fed by springs. It is actually more like a stream than a river, but the natural scenery and clean water makes it worth a visit if you are in the area.

The Papuan Rice Terraces are in the western part too. They are not all that beautiful and are simply large and mostly flat fields. But there are waterfalls you can walk to amid the jungle, and you could stay in a hotel or guesthouse and relax. Papuan is a favorite stop for cyclists along the highway.

Transport:

  • The Gelar River is about an hour and 45 minutes by road from Denpasar Airport.
  • West Bali National Park is about 2 hours from the airport.
  • The Papuan Rice Terraces are about an hour from the airport.

3. Hike on Mount Batur

Since it is so dry, August is maybe the best month to hike in the volcanic mountains that run in a chain across the middle of the island from east to west. Mount Batur is one of the easier ones to hike up, and it is recommended for those who want an easier climb and for getting in shape for other hikes. The hike up is about 2 hours.

The weather in the mountains is appreciably cooler than along the coast, so many people like hiking in the mountains and staying in lodges there. Mount Batur is 1,717 meters (5,633 feet) tall, and its top is about 10 °C (18 °F) cooler that at sea level.

If you stay in Ubud and want to be at the top to see the sunrise, you should depart at about 2:00 am. You could also hike up the day before and stay at the top overnight.

Transport: Mount Batur is about 75 to 95 minutes from Denpasar by private driver or taxi (45 to 55 USD).

4. Go to Gianyar Night Market in Ubud

When you are in the Ubud area, you can enjoy a meal at dusk at the Gianyar night market. It is known for its Balinesian and international food and drink at low prices. A whole meal including ice tea can cost just 35,000 IDR (2.50 USD).

Two typical Balinesian treats to try are martabak manis (sweet pancakes) that are local-style pastries and Sate Lilit (roasted meat on lemon grass stalks or bamboo slivers) — the local way of making shish kebabs.

There are numerous stalls that sell everything from cheap electronics to pets.

Location: The market is in Gianyar at Jalan Ngurah Rai about 11 kilometers (7 miles) from Ubud. It closes about 10:00 pm, but it is open all day. So, you could get breakfast or lunch there and shop during the day too.

5. Leave the Crowds and Have Adventures around Munduk

The northern part of Bali is good for adventurous activities such as mountain climbing, hiking, going to waterfalls, volcano adventures, and diving. It is also good for those who want to relax and stay at luxury resorts or just golf.

There are less bothersome crowds in the north side of the island, and the weather is cooler. It is still a fairly easy place to go to since it is only about 90 minutes from Denpasar by road.

There are rice fields in Munduk to hike around in and watch the farmers.

The area is full of natural highlights:

  • Lake Buyan and Lake Tamblingan are two lakes to see.
  • Munduk Waterfall (entrance fee about 1 USD) is nearby, and it is impressive.
  • About a 30-minute drive from it is another famed waterfall called the Banyumala Twin Waterfall, and there are two others in the area too.
  • You could also hike up the Mount Sengayang volcano.

To avoid getting lost and also for safety on the trails on the mountains and to the waterfalls, we suggest you go with a local guide and use our private vehicles and drivers.

Crowds and Costs in August

The busiest travel months of the year are July and August. The number of international tourists in August might be 50% or 60% more than in May. Australians especially come to take a vacation in August during their winter. It is holiday season for many countries, and people take the opportunity to enjoy time in Bali.

Prices for hotel rooms and apartment/villa rentals are up at the same level as the busy Christmas and New Year vacation days. The south of Bali, especially the beach areas, such as Kuta, Seminyak, Sanur, Canggu, and Nusa Dua, might have crowds of tourists. There may also be crowding in the south-central part of Bali around Ubud.

What to Wear in August

August averages 10 hours of sunshine a day, and it is one of the sunniest months. To protect yourself from solar radiation and heatstroke, it is important to bring light, cool, and quick-drying clothing that covers your skin or sunblock.

Insect repellent might be required in the evenings, especially in the rural areas.

Sandals and other cool, breathable footwear are generally recommended, except when you go hiking in the mountains.

Wear strong comfortable trainers or light hiking boots to support your feet and ankles when you hike in the rice terraces and on the volcanoes.
