February is again in the middle of the southern hemisphere summer and Bali's November–March wet season. Therefore, the weather in Bali in February is warm to hot, and still very rainy, though a bit less than January.

There is still enough sun (average 6 hours per day) to enjoy beaches between the downpours, which fall on 22/28 days on average.

Humidity is 10% less than in January, averaging 75% — though still high, it's a sign that the rainy season is slowing down. Again, Bali's February rain is usually very heavy, with tropical storms, though they are over quite quickly, often falling in the afternoon or evening.

The Best Places to Visit in Bali in February

February is NOT good for visiting Bali's islands or island hopping, doing most watersports, especially diving and snorkeling (the exception is Nusa Dua), or for adventurous outdoor activities, especially volcano/mountain climbing. If you really want to do those things, consider Thailand in February, which has ideal dry-season weather.

Avoid tropical downpours, strong ocean currents, and rough seas, making the most of the sunny times. With that advice in mind, here are Bali's best places to visit in February.

1) Nusa Dua Beach — Bali's Best Rainy Season Spot

Nusa Dua is in a sheltered cove on the east of Bali's southern peninsula, and so it avoids the rainy-season problems of most beaches on Bali: murky seas with (dangerous) floating rubbish, trashy sand, and a general lack of holiday atmosphere. Nusa Dua enjoys clear water in February, and so it's the place those in the know flock to in Bali's wet season.

Chinese New Year may be a consideration in February, with people escaping the cold of China for a sunny holiday by the beach. Book early!

Watersports, including diving and snorkeling, can still be enjoyed for at least part of most days of the wet season at Nusa Dua, which is sunny and hot with clear enough waters when it's not raining. Nusa Dua is known for luxury resorts, honeymoons, family holidays, restaurants, shopping, and surfing.

2) Experience Balinese Culture and Cuisine in Ubud

Ubud, cultural capital of Bali, is good to visit even on a rainy day (and it almost never rains all day in Bali).

Ubud Royal Palace exhibits the island's royal family treasures, and there are charming architectural features and gardens to see. Catch a Balinese dance performance. See its art market, and take home a souvenir or several: silk scarves, light island shirts, statues, kites, and other arty items are sold.

Ubud is the best place to do a Balinese cooking class (an idea activity for escaping the rain) The cultural capital has Balinese chefs, who would show you the local market where fresh ingredients are bought, then show you how to make Bali cuisine. 3) Ubud Monkey Forest

Close to the town of Ubud is a hilly jungle full of macaques and small temples. Of course, it's better visited when the sun is out, but cloud or a little rain won't stop you or the monkeys. They are very bold and used to human interaction, but do follow the guidelines, so as not to come into conflict with the curious semi-wild creatures.

It could be a delightful family outing or a chance for the culture or nature lover to explore temples and jungle on well paved paths and steps.

4) View Tegallalang's Verdant Rice Terraces

The Tegallalang Rice Terraces are also close to Ubud (within 30 minutes), making them the best ones to visit in the middle of the wet season. Try to get there when the sun's out for stunning photography of steep, tiered, valley-side paddies dotted with palm trees. By February, the rice will be green and growing, as will the surrounding jungle. See Bali at its most verdant, and appreciate a harmony between the island agriculture and nature.

Bali's Jatiluwih World Heritage Rice Terraces are usually visitable too in February, but the roads out from Ubud may be affected by mudslides making the 2-hour journey longer/undoable.

5) Enjoy Awesome Waterfalls near Ubud

Ubud is near several waterfalls, and they're most awesome in the height of the wet season. After a downpour, head out of Ubud to see a cascade in the sun, and maybe a rainbow too! The most popular waterfall is Tibumana — a single vertical torrent plunging into a jungle pool, shallow enough at the edge to paddle in.

Tegenungan Waterfall, also about 20 minutes outside Ubud, is a mightier tumult, best photo in the evening as it's west-facing.

Low Season: Less Crowding and Cost

There is some pleasant weather to be enjoyed in Bali in February, but it is definitely a rain-affected off-season month with corresponding price reductions.

There may be some interest in Bali from China during Chinese New Year as a winter holiday beach getaway, COVID regulations permitting, but apart from that you should be able to enjoy quieter attractions, and the bargain prices will definitely be there.

What to Wear in February

Pack light, cool, quick-drying clothing.An umbrella will be handy to provide shelter from showers and sun. You may prefer a local poncho-like waterproof for walking around in the rain.

Bring some light longer clothing to cover arms and legs for Bali's Hindu temples and religious sites, which could also help to protect you from the sun and mosquitoes.

UV levels are high in February (when it's not cloudy), so pack some sun cream, a sunhat, and good sunglasses. Insect/mosquito repellent may be required, especially in evenings and rural areas.

Sandals and cool, breathable footwear are generally recommended. But, in February, deep in the wet season, the terraced-field, jungle, and hillside paths will be muddy, so bring good walking shoes that are easily cleaned with a good grip in the wet/mud.
